All or Nothing: Anker’s Summer Shirt

All or Nothing: Anker’s Summer Shirt

Casting on everything seems a little crazy right? How many WIPs does one human need? Well, I have a massive yarn stash and about a year ago I started to get very overwhelmed with the amount of knitting I had to do. Or more so the fact that I may not outlive my yarn collection. So, as any sane person does, I started sorting my yarn into projects. I stopped at about 22. I figured that was enough to get started! So these all sat around for another year, causing another kind of stress for me. So this year, I decided that I would eliminate my stress and cast on every single project I wanted to. Makes sense right? Without further ado, my first cast on was the Anker’s Summer Shirt.

This is my first cast on of All or Nothing – a year long journey to cast everything on. I don’t have any revolutionary reasons why I chose this as my first cast on other than because I wanted to. My friend recently finished hers and I’ve been itching to get my hands into this luscious yarn. It is dyed by my friend a local dyer and I have amassed quite a collection of her yarn. The colour is not something I would gravitate towards in the shops, but I remember clear as day seeing it in Debbie’s shop and it’s like it was calling my name. Yarn does that from time to time. (Or always :)) I’m working with two different dye lots on this one, so I’m doing helical knitting, which is a first for me and I love how it is working up!

As expected this yarn is a dream to knit with and the pattern is fairly easy to follow if you’ve got a clear head…which I don’t about 95% of the time. I think my favourite yarn weight to knit with these days is DK, which I don’t have a long history with. However a couple of recent knits I’ve done (the Honey Crueller Cardigan and the Camaro) triggered my love for it. It knits up quick yet is not too bulky. Expect to see more DK weight projects throughout this All or Nothing project.

I think that this shirt will be more of a winter wear with a fitted long sleeve tee underneath as the yarn feels a little bulky for summer. Or perhaps a nice option for the fall – maybe a trip to the apple orchard with a warm latte in my hand. Mmmm

Have you made the Anker’s Summer Shirt? If so, tell me about it in the comments!
