It’s been a while since I tested patterns. The Honey Cruller Cardigan was my only one for the year. I had recently had my second baby (December 2024) and thought perhaps I had a lot of spare time to devote to a pattern test. I struggle with gauging how much time I actually have to complete things. Anyway, I absolutely love Mollie’s patterns, (and cardigans) so I couldn’t pass this one up!
DETAILS
YARN
I thought I was going to use stash yarn for this, but I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so naturally, off to Little Red Mitten to find something perfect. DK weight yarn is fairly new to me, so I perused the shelves. My friend directed me to the Berroco section and I found two colours in the Vintage DK line that I fell in love with. The one I used, which is the colourway Chana Dal, and another beautiful deep green. There were only two skeins of the deep green, so I picked up one ball to swatch with as the Chana Dal had just enough for the cardigan. The Berroco Vintage DK yarn is so nice to work with. It’s smooth and still fluffy and works up fast. I am saving my scraps to one day make the perfect toque.

PATTERN
At the time of posting, this pattern has not been released yet. It is the Honey Crueller Cardigan by White Owl Crochet. Mollie is an absolute genius. If you haven’t had a chance to make one of her patterns, do so now! She puts so many details, explanations, examples and resources in each pattern. This one was charted, but also included the written instructions, which I followed as it’s easier for my work flow to do so. This cardigan design features a beautiful cable-esque design throughout the body and down the arms. So while it looks super complex, you do not have to knit a single cable. Which is amazing. I had previously tested the Optic Hoodie and my testing experience was so amazing. I will continue to test for Mollie for as long as she lets me!

FINISHED PROJECT
THIS is the finished project. I was blown away by how this turned out given how simple it was to knit. I love everything about this cardigan. The squishy yarn that drapes perfectly, the beautiful colour, the intricate pattern. I did omit a repeat in the body for fear of running out of yarn, however I wish I hadn’t as I really love a longer sweater. However this is still a great fit and the length works out well. I sourced my buttons from Red Poppy Crafting on Etsy and boy do they ever complete it!
I have worn this so many times, I’m sure my family are beginning to wonder if it is physically attached to me. It’s such a perfect wardrobe staple no matter what the season. For those cooler summer nights paired with shorts or cozying up by the fireplace in the winter.
